Satellite TV without a DISH

Guys;

I just met a friend of mine yesterday and he told me that it is possible to receive satellite tv (channels) via a special satellite receiver (he didn't mention the model), without installing a dish. I told it is not possible. He told I know a friend who already has it because he could not install a dish since he does not have the right sight for satellites. So he told him that he uses of course the internet connection.
