Hi - I'm wanting to help out a friend who has purchased a satellite box and a Netgear WNDR3000 router from an individual in Canada. The router appears to have been modified to have a phone (RJ11) jack in it (as it doesn't come this way from Netgear). This RJ11 port is used to connect to his satellite box (since it doesn't have a LAN port - I don't think it's a DreamBox). Furthermore the satellite box appears to have some modification too (some added wires inside) along with a Bell Canada card.
I believe that this router is setup to "phone home" somehow. It's connecting to a server (possibly a Dreambox running CCam as a server) and sending in a username/password so it can receive the keys (via card sharing). The router then sends this data via the phone jack to the receiver and he's watching TV. First, has anyone seen this sort of setup with a modified router going to a satellite box with an RJ11 jack? What would the local Bell Canada card be used for (maybe a fak card?) Am I on the right track on how it works? Second, the issue is that he loses signal all the time cuz we believe the individual on the server end is constantly having problems. He wants to stop using this sharing from Canada and just buy/pay for satellite service at his home and then share it around the house. I know this is possible from what I read here, so what DreamBox would be a good choice for him to start with (for use on Dish Network in the USA)? I can then learn/setup CCam on it for him and get his other receiver to possibly see the DreamBox (if I can get into the router and see how it s setup and change the IP it's looking towards) - otherwise we'll have to use DreamBoxes in each room. Thank you very much for your time, DataCrypt
