Thumbs down Canal Digitaal phasing out irde*o

Canal Digitaal phasing out irde*o
08.50 Europe/London, January 20, 2012 By Robert Briel

The Dutch satellite DTH platform Canal Digitaal is phasing out irde*o encryption, according to Dutch magazine Totaal TV.

The M7 Group said it will start next week switching off irde*o encoding on two Belgian public channels, VRT Eén and Canvas/Ketnet, as well as on the adult Marcel Dorcel channel.

This is the first step of a complete migration to Mediaguard3 encryption. The move was previously announced by the platform operator. At a later date, more channels will be affected.

Current irde*o smart card users will be informed about the upcoming changes by personal letter, which will also contain an offer to obtain a new satellite receiver.

At the moment, Canal Digitaal already encrypts a limited number of channels in irde*o; with Mediaguard viewers will receive more channels at the same subsxription price.
